I just thought I would share my good news. My darling 14 year old Daughter has just had the results of her blood tests which were organised when we were concerned about her health. She does not have RA as we feared. She is as thin as a pencil, always looks anaemic and has recently been complaining of joint pain. She had her blood tests on Monday and today we received a letter from our GP asking us to contact them to discuss the results. My heart plummeted as I so did not want to be responsible for passing on this dreaded disease. Luckily our GP returned our call within 20 minutes (unheard of) and said all results fine on the RA front. She does not have RA but there is a slight query on her kidneys. I know exactly what is wrong. Despite much nagging she does not drink very much. She has always been the same. This is now going to change and she has promised me that she will make an effort to drink more.

We are all so relieved and so grateful.

Jackie

Hi Jackie

I understand completely your worries about passing on RA. Last week Louis, my 16 year old, had an appointment with the rheumatologist as we feared he may have RA. He has had joint pain in various places including hands, wrists, knees and back for many months now but no inflammation. He was referred on the 11th January and his appointment was the 31st; can't ask for better than that!

After many blood tests and a very thorough examination RA has been ruled out ... relief! He has however got Hypermobility Syndrome and has been referred for physiotherapy. At least that is something that can be treated to some extent using exercise to improve muscle strength and tone.

It's wonderful news for you Jackie. Hope your daughter is able to stick to the new liquids regime!

Wow Jackie - what a HUGE, HUGE relief for you all. I think we can all empathise with you - I know I worry everytime my daughter complains of swollen knees or a bad back! Sooooo thrilled for you and, of course, your lovely daughter. Just keep nagging her to drink!!

And 3's a crowd! My 18 year old Katharine was tested last week due to joint pain and fatigue. She already has a rare AI disease (mucous membrane pemphigoid) and was on CellCept from age 11 - 17 so I was also mentally preparing for RA too but all her tests are clear. They are going to keep an eye on her due to the prevous AI problem but for now, all seems ok. Great to hear about your teens too Jackie and Lyn. What an eventful life we all lead!

What a relief for you.

I have a very slim daughter in law who recently had many tests , even a biopy of the kidney. Her problem also seems to stem from not drinking enough. We have stepped up the naggingLOL

I also have someone in the famlie aged 16 she has some auto imumme thing
since she was around 11 .Which causes joint pain and the rest .But not r.a

On looking my famlie which are all over the uk and i don,t see no one from one year to next let alone hear about them .
even if closeley reated .We have auto inumme things on both sides but its not all the same thing like i am the only one with R.A but also have overlaps scleroderma ( crest type still being tested )
BUT MY LATE GRAN had R.A .She died in 1954 on talking to her son i wonder if she had more then R.A SHE PASSED ON my age now 57 She lived 50 miles from the nearst hospital and transport was a honda 90 sitting on the back .So guess never tested for anything and it was the 50s

i wonder if we have a rouge gene somewhere .It seems to pop up every other genation .In a way i would rather have R.A THEN COMPAtated like the 16yr old but the slc is a pain in neck
